Niels Van Hoorn Goodbye Letter
Dear Dots friends,
Last December, after 21 years, I made the decision to leave the Legendary Pink Dots. It was not an easy decision. The band became a big part of my life and we made a lot of good music together. I especially liked the first years – but in the last couple of years, I was less and less connected to the albums and to the music. On tour with the Dots, I met a lot of people and made good friends; I will always be grateful for all the support, friendships, and great times.
I’m now involved with a number of new and exciting projects: Strange Attractor, Voltage, Szense, and my newest project, The National Grid (a live drum & bass soundsystem /electronic dance act). I’m also putting together a new album featuring a collection of my favorite works recorded with bands I’ve been involved with over the last 40 years. I will be doing a lot of touring with my new projects, and I really hope to see all of you.
You can find me on my website, NielsVanHoorn.com, where you can also buy my recordings, subscribe to my newsletter, and invite me to participate in your projects. If you email and we’ve met, it’s helpful if you send a photo (I’m very visual and not so good with names).
Let’s stay in touch!
Niels

We’ll miss you at the next LPD show in Toronto for certain! Thanks for the GREAT tunes & best luck with the future projects!
Niels,
This saddens me greatly. You have indeed given a great part of your life to The Dots. What really upsets me is that you always went out of your way to talk with me and connect with me during your performances with LPD. During The US tour for ‘The Plutonium Bride’ in Denver, My friends & I were right in front of you onstage (you borrowed my friend’s hat for awhile). Even though I had connected with Edward & Phil as well ever since your Los Angeles performance for ‘The Golden Age’, you were the one who made sure to talk with me every show I had come to. I truly hope I will see you again with another project, but I will miss you if you don’t make it back to Denver. Good luck in all your ventures. You are a good man.
Truly,
Troy Palmer, Colorado Springs CO
P.S. It is easiest to get a hold of me on Facebook. I always seem to have trouble with my Gmail account.
Niels-Not a lot to say, really;except to wish you all the best in your ongoing endeavours, and to thank you for your contribution to the last 21 years of my life-endeavour! I’ll never forget the first (and now only!) time I noticed your absence from the stage, and turned to find a light-bulb glowing in a saxophone just behind me!
Looking forward to whatever the future may hold-
Don Gallacher
(we were never introduced)
