Niels Van Hoorn Goodbye Letter

Posted in Letter on March 3rd, 2010 by admin

Dear Dots friends,

Last December, after 21 years, I made the decision to leave the Legendary Pink Dots.  It was not an easy decision.  The band became a big part of my life and we made a lot of good music together.  I especially liked the first years – but in the last couple of years, I was less and less connected to the albums and to the music. On tour with the Dots, I met a lot of people and made good friends; I will always be grateful for all the support, friendships, and great times.

I’m now involved with a number of new and exciting projects: Strange Attractor, Voltage, Szense, and my newest project, The National Grid (a live drum & bass soundsystem /electronic dance act).   I’m also putting together a new album featuring a collection of my favorite works recorded with bands I’ve been involved with over the last 40 years.  I will be doing a lot of touring with my new projects, and I really hope to see all of you.

You can find me on my website, NielsVanHoorn.com, where you can also buy my recordings, subscribe to my newsletter, and invite me to participate in your projects.  If you email and we’ve met, it’s helpful if you send a photo (I’m very visual and not so good with names).

Let’s stay in touch!

Niels

Strange Attractor – Mettle European Tour 2009

Posted in Tour on September 14th, 2009 by admin

After a year producing and recording new material, Strange Attractor hits the road again in the fall of 2009 to embark on their 4th European Tour since 2006.

The trio – Niels van Hoorn, Richard van Kruysdijk and Marie-Claudine – will be performing a blend of new and older songs. Of course they will play songs from their latest, critically acclaimed CD ‘Mettle”, along with some brand new songs from their upcoming mini-CD ‘Youth.

This 4-track mini-CD has become a precious gem. The crown of this release is their beautiful cover of the Soft Cell classic ‘Youth’, that could be classified as dark-lounge.

Strange Attractor is known for their special and spontaneous live arrangements, making each concert a unique happening instead of a reproduction of the songs as they were recorded. Shifting from subtle electronic ’songscapes’ to monumental triphop songs, Strange Attractor has created their own musical blend of modern jazz and new wave tingled triphop. The attraction of their live performance is built around the warm, soulful vocals of Marie-Claudine, the diverse wind instruments of ‘natural born performer’ Niels, and the energetic acoustic and electronic drumming of Richard.

Come out and see the shows!

The new album from Strange Attractor is about to be released.

The only female vocalist is Marie-Claudine, known from Sonar Lodge. She is also part of the live trio and her beautiful voice features on 4 tracks.
